HALI'A (2022)
This original piece, titled Hali'a (meaning "sweet remembrance" in Polynesian), measures 40” x 60” and is hand-painted in acrylic on collaged Samoan bark cloth, elegantly wrapped over gallery canvas.
I thoughtfully incorporated the original designs of the Samoan bark cloth into this special painting. The dark brown elements are the original traditional tribal markings of the bark cloth, which was brought back from Samoa in the 1970s by an artist friend who served there as a Peace Corps volunteer.
